20 Weeks - IT'S A GIRL!!!

This is an exciting time in our lives. Not only is it exciting as it is our first child, but also because we get to share the sex of our baby with all our families during the Christmas season. Below is some information as I have been posting weekly except this week instead of seeing what the baby looks like according to the websites, I have included actual ultrasound pictures showing different parts of our baby girl.

From baby center:
Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he's measured from head to toe.)

He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).

From the bump:
Baby's now the size of a cantaloupe!
Baby gulps down several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, both for nutrition and to practice swallowing and digesting. And, these days, those taste buds actually work! Studies show that after birth, babies respond best to tastes they've already had via amniotic fluid. Meaning, think about what you'd like your future child to eat as you prepare your own lunch.

Diapers, diapers, diapers

It is estimated for one child, you will go through 6,000 diapers in their "diaper" lifetime.  Recently we have been getting coupons for diapers and have been contemplating "investing" in some starting now (even though we are pretty sure we will get some at showers).  The question is, do we choose Pampers, Luvs, Huggies, or what?  I've read it depends on the fit for your baby.  Well if that's the case, does that mean we don't purchase any until after the baby is here when it will be too late???

I never knew there would be so many decisions!!!

Any input would help....

10 weeks - Lime

We went for our second doctors appointment today not expecting an ultrasound, but the doctor needed one to check on the baby and I of course did not object.  He said everything looked good and we were progressing as we should.

According to one of the baby weekly emails I get, baby w's bones and cartilage are forming, small indentations on the legs are developing into knees and ankles, and arms can flex already.  Along with all of that, this week baby w's tooth bud fairy is making her appearance, with the little choppers forming under the gums.  Stomach is producing digestive juices and kidneys producing larger quantities of urine.

I have been having a lot of nausea sometimes with a "result" so the nurse wrote me a prescription and she told me a vitamin I could take to help.  We will see.

Fate or coincedence

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord....to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

Is it coincedence or fate how Chuck and I met?
Is it coincedence or fate I purchased health insurance which went into effect August 1st?
Is it coincedence or fate that we sold our big TV system that used to be where the nursery will be July 22nd?
Is it coincedence or fate we traded our truck in for a SUV at the end of July knowing one day we would need one when that time came?

Pregnant August 16th....God works in mysterious ways!!!

To know or not to know

I know some people say we shouldn't find out the sex of baby w so it is more of a surprise and most people say we should so we can plan.  We have decided to find out hopefully in November so if people want to Christmas shop for baby w to be a boy or a girl, they will know.

What I'm not sure about is whether Chuck and I should know first and then tell everyone or go with my original thought of having the ultrasound tech/nurse/doctor put it in an envelope and inviting family (and friends possibly) over to reveal the surprise together.

Who knew having a baby would need so many decisions!!!

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Baby names - Part 1

Recently we have been talking a little about names for baby w.  We have decided Hunter for a boy, but have been debating on a middle name.  I know some people will find me crazy, but I don't want our child to be teased by their name and/or initials.  My mom says the initials aren't anything to worry about, but who knows.  We've thought about Hunter Allen Williams or Hunter Austin Williams if it's a boy, but are still discussing the middle name.  Tanner was a choice for me, but Chuck quickly said no.  We previously discussed Hayleigh if it was a girl, but that seems to change often.  I have thought of Olivia also.  Then again I am more concerned about the girls initials then anything since we don't know what her initials will end up being much later on in life (I know call me crazy).

Then in the last couple of days, while watching tv, I find myself reading every name on the screen (credits, etc) to see if I like any of the names I see (or hear).

Who knew picking out a name would be so difficult!

Good days and not so good days - 8 weeks 2 days

Baby w has given me some good days and not so good days.....During my first 7 weeks, I hardly had any nausea or morning sickness.  At about 7 1/2 weeks, the nausea starting kicking in.  I almost wished I would just throw up to get it over with cause the feeling of having to and not is worse in my mind.  It got so bad one day that I had to lay down on the floor in my office (Chuck had told me laying flat would relieve the pressure off my stomach).  It seemed to help after I slept for about 15 minutes (hard floors aren't comfortable).  I couldn't eat lunch that day which doesn't help either.  The nurse said it could be the prenatal I'm trying, but I stopped taking it for two days and the nausea was still there.  I have found Luby's isn't a place I seem to be able to go and eat since we've been there twice and the nausea gets pretty bad.  Wheat thins seem to be my saving grace.

Until next time....hopefully the nausea will subside.

We have a heartbeat!!!

Yesterday was our first visit to officially find out I am pregnant with baby w - six weeks, one day!  Above is one of the vaginal ultrasounds taken where they checked out baby w, my ovaries, and my uterus and where we got to hear the heartbeat.  It was a touching moment for Chuck.  They said everything is looking good.  After the ultrasound room, it was a visit in the office with the doc.  Little did we know we would have that much paperwork to read over about all kinds of test I/baby w will/can have over the next however many months.

Officially my due date is May 10th and I will be delivering at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Woodlands.  More details to come later.

Grandparents day - 9/12

My parents, grandparents, Chuck's mom, grandparents, sister (Karen) and Jim, niece (Kayla) and her daughter Skylar came over for what they thought was just a day for Chuck's grandmother's 93rd birthday celebration and grandparents day.  Little did they know what was in store.  Chuck asked for everyone to get together for a family photo before we ate.  I had his sister's camera, Chuck had ours and instead of saying "say cheese", Chuck says "everyone say Lindsey's pregnant".  I guess everyone thought we were just using it as a saying, cause they didn't believe it right away until we gave them confirmation.  (Picture taken is above)  I gave them each a frame I made with a picture of the pregnancy test I took.  All in all, it was a good day!

Daddy finds out

While in the Waco area for the weekend doing our favorite hobby, I decided to surprise him with the exciting news we have been waiting three years for.  We had been out all afternoon so he needed to take a shower.  I had taken my first test (seen in the welcome blog) that morning before we left our house to drive to Waco and decided I needed to take another one just to reassure myself before telling him.  While he was in the shower, I decided it would be the perfect time to take another test, even though we were both in the same room.  Of course it came up positive.  I left the bathroom and decided it was the perfect time to tell him.  I had a gift bag with a present in it, along with the first test I took, and a card.

The card said:

Outside: Hi!
Inside: (Print) Just wanted to send a smile your way!
Inside: (Handwritten) I love you and.....
Back cover: (Handwritten) baby williams is on its way!!

The picture to the right is what was in the gift bag.
